Soulkind Issue 2

One of the things I love about SoulKind is we get to meet so many people and be invited into their lives. Not only is it a privilege, but our contributors seem to open more due to Chris and I, or whoever is compiling the story, making the effort to travel and meet them. For me, it makes our stories more powerful and gives us a point of difference, all be it a somewhat logistically tricky one sometimes.

That became more evident than ever whilst making issue two. Not only was I back in recovery after major leg reconstructive surgery, but the country went into a national lockdown due to the Covid pandemic, making meeting people a non-starter. But as restrictions eased, we were able to head out armed with face masks and sanitising gels, first to London to meet Anoushe Husain, a strong, determined character who has found rock climbing to help her overcome the hurdles life has put in her path.

Forced to remain in the UK for this issue, we ventured up to Birmingham to meet Hezron Brown, who showed us around his inner-city stomping grounds, a place where he once lived on the streets as a young teenager. Now his life couldn’t be more different as the CEO of his own company More Talk More Action, which gives mentoring and training to youth groups. Its simple vision, to inspire young people and encourage positive change.

Be Kind. Just try it, see how it makes you feel.
— Ed Jackson

Also included in issue two are Ed Jackson, a former professional rugby player who overcame a spinal cord injury and set up a charity called Millimetres to Mountains. It helps people who are dealing with mental health problems after encountering adversity in their lives, create positive change. Jacqui Furneaux who took to travelling aged 50, a decision that evolved into 9 years exploring the world without any set plans on a Royal Enfield motorbike she bought in India.

Andrew ‘Cotty’ Cotton, one of the world’s most respected professional big wave surfers, Keri-anne Payne the former Olympic and Team GB swimmer, and world record holder for the open water 10K swim. National Geographic Explorer, biologist and front line conservationist Dr Niall McCann,

Dave Cornthwaite, a lovely human being who turned his life around with the three simple words ‘Say Yes More’, and Jasmine Langley a ‘vanlifer’ who has found her purpose living on the road and close to nature.
